Quality Control

The majority of clay roof tile manufacturers guarantee their products for 30 years, but it is common knowledge within the industry that the life span of a clay roof tile is closer to 100 years. Improvements in quality control in the manufacturing process can only be effective if proper maintenance is carried out. To ensure this, manufacturers provide guidance on what to look for. An inspection check list highlights the areas that should be monitored:

Missing, damaged or chipped tiles
Deterioration, creep or cracking of metal-lined valleys
Loose, broken or missing ridges and hip tiles
Metal flashings and pointing
Eaves, gutters and guttering joints clear of debris

Members of the Clay Roof Tile Council adhere to stringent standards which include:

Being Quality Assured by a UKAS certified body
Carrying out regular testing of products to assure compliance to BS EN1304
Carrying out regular testing at a NAMAS approved test house for Freeze/Thaw Test 100 cycles
Being registered with DETR as a signatory to the Climate Change Levy Agreement, and being committed to reducing energy consumption
