Dreadnought Tiles
Dreadnought Tiles is
a family-run manufacturer on a site where clay tiles
have been produced since 1805,
and under the Davenhill family since 1902. As founder
members of the Clay Roof Tile Council, they have a total
commitment to the superiority of clay as a roof covering.
The materials have been tested in real conditions over
many generations and the company is proud of the outstanding
aesthetic and traditional qualities of its products.
Dreadnought, uniquely amongst present day manufacturers,
can maintain that its wide range consists entirely of
genuine, naturally burnt clay colours - Staffordshire
Blue through to Blue Brindle, Brown Heather, Country
Brown, Brown Antique and Plum Red, all obtained without
the use of applied stains or pigments. This is achieved
by harnessing traditional kiln firing expertise to the
exceptional control provided by modern single tile high,
fast fire kilns. The size, weight and thickness of Dreadnought
tiles has been unaltered throughout the century. This
makes them ideal for both renovation and new work.
Keymer Hand Made Clay Tiles
Since 1740
Keymer has been producing its distinctive hand made tiles
in the traditional manner which results
in an individual hand print on each tile. The product
adds a timeless style and elegance to roofscapes. The
company uses Wealden Clay from its own quarry, renowned
for its durability, and produces a choice of colours
- Wealden Red, Antique and Elizabethan. Keymer uses the
same craft skills which existed in the 18th and 19th
centuries, manufactured under a strict quality assurance
system. Its traditional origins make the Keymer tile
synonymous with conservation.
