Marketing Campaign
  • Through the industry body, the Clay Roof Tile Council (CRTC), the manufacturers spearheaded a national marketing campaign to educate and excite the construction industry about clay. Their strategy has paid dividends.
  • The CRTC campaign was to inform architects, planners, specifiers and self-builders about the benefits of clay roof tiles and encourage them to choose the product for their projects.
  • Last year marked a watershed year for the industry when the CRTC published its year-on-year sales result which reported that sales of clay roof tiles had soared to record levels. Last year’s figures represent a 71 per cent increase in sales from 1994 and six per cent up on 2001. Clay roof tiles are now high on the specifiers’ agenda.
  • The marketing strategy’s success was backed up in a survey conducted by the CRTC among conservation officers, house builders, architects, planners and roofing contractors. It found that 99% of those professionals listed agreed that clay roof tiles enhance the built environment and 95% believe clay roof tiles are sustainable building products.

The Council’s efforts to promote the use of clay roof tiles include:

  • THE CRTC mobile exhibition which tours local authorities and educational establishments throughout the UK to promote the history and benefits of clay roof tiles
  • CRTC Clay Roofing Awards launched in 2002 to recognise and reward the efforts of its industry professionals. The next Awards will be held in May 2006
  • The launch of the CRTC Vertical Tiling Guide CD-ROM in 2001 and the launch of the Plain Tiling Guide in 2004.
  • Support for the SureVent campaign to inform homeowners and industry professionals of the need to ventilate roofs. The CRTC believes that adequate tried and tested methods of roof ventilation should always be used
  • Publish industry survey findings about State of the Industry and industry’s views on the benefits of clay roof tiles
